In 2006, I read The Tapping Cure by Dr Roberta Temes. I was definitely sceptical, but hesitantly tried the tapping techniques the author described on something that had upset me for many years. I was astounded when, after twenty minutes of tapping, my levels of distress over that issue reduced to the point of being an “ouch” rather than an open wound.
I began using tapping on myself and continued to learn more about it. Soon afterwards, I came across the work of Nick, Jessica and Alex Ortner on their website, The Tapping Solution. I attended many of their World Tapping Summits and continued to learn and practise tapping.
Over time, I introduced family and friends to tapping. I developed it to incorporate the core principles of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) in a clear, structured and effective format, and gradually introduced this to some of my clients. The consistently positive feedback I received increased my confidence, and I became keen to research tapping further to help establish it as an evidence-based approach.
Thankfully, Professor Peta Stapleton, Clinical Psychologist, has done exactly that. Over the past fifteen years or so, she and her colleagues have produced a strong evidence base for tapping. I particularly appreciate her book The Evidence-Based EFT Manual, published in 2025.
In 2023, I worked with Jessica Ortner to develop four tapping exercises for The Tapping Solution app. This is available free of charge and is a resource I regularly recommend to my clients. I was paid to develop the exercises and receive no ongoing payment from the app.
Jessica Ortner invited me to participate in the 2024 World Tapping Summit. As it approached, I was struck by how anxious I felt. I realised I was expecting some of my colleagues to be as sceptical and critical as I had been when I first encountered tapping. Tapping on my fears certainly helped reduce my anxiety, while Professor Stapleton’s research strengthened my confidence that tapping has a credible evidence base and is something I can be proud to use in my work.
When my session with Jessica was included in the 2025 World Tapping Summit, I was touched by the encouraging feedback I received from both people I knew and complete strangers.
I am privileged to have been invited as a guest to the 18th World Tapping Summit in 2026. I have always enjoyed speaking with Jessica — she is a skilled interviewer — and I welcome the opportunity to make some key ideas accessible to an international audience.

I am an affiliate of the World Tapping Summit, so while the tapping sessions are completely free to watch for 24 hours on the day they are streamed, I may receive commission if anyone chooses to purchase the full programme. I have never asked or encouraged anyone to buy it, and The Tapping Solution website offers many resources free of charge.
Some featured sessions include:
Nick Ortner — Live on 2 February 2026
Alex Ortner: Tapping Research, Results & Experts — Live on 5 February 2026
Jessica Ortner: Tapping Meditations — Live on 9 February 2026
Tapping is now something I often use in my work to help people make sense of whatever is causing them distress. It is not for everyone, and I understand and respect that. Tapping cannot remove life’s challenges. However, my personal experience is that it can — and regularly does — help put things into perspective. Our feelings can make sense, our thoughts can become simply thoughts, our beliefs can be more easily challenged, and we can focus on helpful actions to turn things around.
Tapping can reduce the intensity of emotions and, in my experience, make other approaches — such as imagery and relaxation — more effective.
I am currently writing my sixth book, which explores how I use tapping and imagery to make peace with the past, manage present challenges, and create space for the future.
