Mental health has been defined as “a state of well-being in which the individual realises his or her abilities, can cope with the normal stress of life, can work productively and fruitfully and is able to make a contribution to his or her community” (WHO, 2001). Annually mental ill-health is costing individuals, organisations and society dearly with direct costs estimated at €3 billion or 2% of GNP. These costs include loss of potential labour supply, absenteeism, presenteeism, reduced productivity and decreased retention to name but a few.

To address this important issue and look at mental health for our own benefit and that of our organisations, Ibec is hosting a breakfast briefing for employers.

The morning will begin with a keynote address from Dr Claire Hayes, Consultant Clinical Psychologist on mental health and resilience in the workplace. This will be followed by a panel discussion with employers (including Vodafone, Core Media and Barack Obama Plaza) who are engaged in excellent practices around mental health and well-being in their workplaces to offer practical suggestions and their experiences.

Date: June 3rd, Ibec offices – video conferencing facilities available

Time: 8.00am breakfast, 8.30am start, 10.30am close
